RADON
The second leading cause of lung cancer and also linked to neuromuscular diseases - Radon is
colorless, odorless and prevalent in our area.
The good news is that is it also able to be mitigated for about $1500. We do a screening using a short
term (48-72hr) charcoal canister and you receive the results by email typically about 2-3 days after we
send the canister out to the lab.
WELL FLOW TEST
A well flow test is done to test that the well is producing enough water for a family that would be occupying the full number of bedrooms in a
home. A formula is used and the water run at approximately 4-6 gallons per minute. If in that time, the well stops producing or the flow slows or
the water becomes sandy or dirty, then the water is stopped and after a certain period of time the water is started again and then measured
until the issue begins again. The recovery rate of the well can then be determined. A well that slows, stops or has clarity issues does not
necessarily fail - the recovery rate may be more than adequate for the household needs. A well flow test takes approximately 45-60 minutes.
Some of the well pumping and well location information is also provided when available on the report.
SEPTIC DYE TESTING
A septic dye test is done to mainly check the operation of a septic
leach system and filter bed system, although some other issues with a
septic system will also show with dye testing.
Typically dye tablets are introduced into the system via a toilet, then
water, as calculated by the number of bedrooms in the home, is run
into the system. The area of the leach field is then observed for any
signs of the dye which would indicate blockages or breakages at the
leach system.

A septic dye test should be completed before a septic tank pump out.
LEAD, NITRITES, NITRATES

These three tests are typically required by banks when a
homeowner will be getting an FHA loan.
After water is allowed to sit in the home's pluming system
overnight, the first water from the sink is sampled and tested for
Lead that is absorbed into the water if the plumbing pipes were
installed using Lead Solder.
Nitrates and Nitrates are typically high in our area when a
property sits below farmland. Farmers use of fertilizers and rain
runoff can increase levels of nitrites and nitrates.
Typically this combination of the three tests can take 10-14 days
for results after taking the sample.
*   WE DO NOT TEST FOR ASBESTOS OR LEAD PAINT.
**   ALLEGANY COUNTY REQUIRES OPEN SYSTEM SEPTIC INSPECTIONS DONE BY THE ALLEGANY HEALTH
DEPARTMENT OR THEIR DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVES.
*** MOST PROPERTIES LOCATED IN THE FINGER LAKES WATERSHEDS MUST BE TESTED BY THE LOCAL
WATERSHED INSPECTORS.
